Connection Guide

Ping, Jitter, and Packet Loss Explained

Low ping is helpful, but it is not the whole connection story. Jitter and packet loss can make a match feel worse than the ping number suggests.

Ping

Ping is the round-trip time between your device and the server. Lower ping usually means faster hit registration and less delay between your action and the server response.

Jitter

Jitter is ping inconsistency. A steady 45 ms can feel better than a connection jumping between 20 ms and 100 ms.

Packet Loss

Packet loss means some data does not arrive. Even small packet loss can cause stutters, rubber-banding, missed shots, or delayed ability usage.

Choosing a Region

If your best region is much lower than the backup, use it for ranked or reaction-heavy games. If two regions are close, queue time, party location, and server stability can matter more than a small ping difference.

When High Ping Is Playable

High ping is not ideal, but it can be manageable in slower roles or casual modes. Avoid taking the most timing-sensitive fights, pre-aim common angles, and play around information instead of raw reaction speed.

Quick Fixes to Try

Use wired networking when possible, pause downloads, close cloud sync tools, and avoid streaming high-resolution video while playing. If packet loss remains, changing region may not help because the issue may be on the local network path.
